Molloy College Class Of 2021 Receives Drive-In Audience

The Rockville Centre school also was scheduled to hold a ceremony Wednesday for last year's graduates.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — Finishing an unusual school year, Molloy College is holding two days of "drive-in" style commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2021, according to a news release.

The program was held Tuesday, and scheduled to conclude Wednesday, inside the Madison Theater. But, for optimum social distancing, families watched from the parking lot on giant monitors.

"This was a monumental achievement for our students and their families that we are thrilled to have been able to make possible," Dr. James P. Lentini, president of Molloy College, said in a statement. "This was also my first in-person commencement as Molloy’s president, so I am especially happy for our Class of 2021 as well as the members of the Class of 2020 who were able to take the walk across the commencement stage they were robbed of by the pandemic last year to collect their diploma."

"I’m thankful to get this chance to walk in our graduation robes because last year’s Class of 2020 didn’t get that," Isabella Shelfo, of Wantagh, who received her bachelor of science in interdisciplinary studies, said.
