NYAW Awards Baldwin Senior High School Student Scholarship
Yvonne Salerno Receives $3,000 Scholarship to Pursue a Career in Coastal Environmental Studies

Baldwin, N.Y. (July 1, 2021)—In partnership with the New York Chapter of the National Association of Water Companies (NAWC-NY), New York American Water recently awarded Yvonne Salerno of Baldwin Senior High School a $3,000 scholarship to pursue a career in coastal environmental studies. This is the eleventh year that New York American Water has offered scholarships to high school students within its service area who have the passion and potential to become the future of the water industry.
“We are honored to present Yvonne with this scholarship to acknowledge her hard work and dedication to her studies,” said Lynda DiMenna, president of New York American Water. “Her artistic and creative talents as well as her dedication to better our environment are an inspiration to us all. We wish her nothing but success in all of her future endeavors.”
Yvonne graduated Baldwin Senior High School with a weighted average of 109.3 and will be attending Stony Brook University in the fall. While attending Baldwin Senior High School, she participated in many extracurricular activities including being a member of both the National Honors and Art Honors Societies. She was also a talented artist and part of the theater club, acting in five plays and serving as the stage crew’s lead painter.

Ms. Salerno also participated in many activities out of school that gave back to her community. She volunteered to clean up trash at local canals and parks, sang for the Relay for Life program as well as local nursing homes, and drew portraits for orphans in Venezuela as part of a Memory Art Project.
