Oceanside Association of Girl Scouts Kicks off Girl Scout Week

Troops were blessed at two local parishes.

The Oceanside Girl Scouts received an extra blessing this past Sunday, which is known as "Girl Scout Sunday". The week-long events help to commemorate a tradition that dates back 106 years, to the birth of the national organization. To help celebrate the Girl Scouts' birthday, (March 12) troops of all ages and faiths gathered at St. Anthony's and St. Christopher's Roman Catholic parishes on Sunday to receive a special blessing to kick off what is known as "Girl Scout Week". During the services, they are recognized for their efforts as Girl Scouts and are given the opportunity to learn about other faiths.

After the masses, the Girl Scouts attended coffee hour and breakfast celebrations at each church and also sold some of their famous Girl Scout cookies. These social gatherings allowed the girls to participate in discussions with their fellow scouts about religious traditions and how faith plays a great role in the culture of scouting.

Girl Scout Week concludes with a celebration at a synagogue on the following Saturday, known as "Girl Scout Shabbat".
