Phase two of a road improvement project in Oceanside is set to begin this year, the Town of Hempstead announced, repairing some of the area's major roadways.

Work will be done on Waukena Avenue, Skillman Avenue and Besade Court. It is a continuation of two prior projects that are designed to increase safety of the road and beautify the area for residents.

“This project is part of Hempstead Town’s continuing investment in communities for the benefit of our residents,” said Councilman Anthony D’Esposito, who represents the area.

Work will begin shortly after the contract is awarded, but there's no word yet when that will be. The work on Waukena will be done from the intersection of Skillman Avenue to the intersection on Ocean Avenue, and will include roadway resurfacing. There will be a new traffic loop at the intersection of Waukena and Skillman, and catch basins will be repaired.

Skillman Avenue work will be done from Brower Avenue to Benjamin Road, and will also include resurfacing, as well as a new curb with gutter, new driveway aprons and new access ramps. In order to protect the trees in front of Oceanside High School, the left side of the curb will be offset and catch basins will be repaired. Similar work will be done on Besade Court.
