Long Island's Crystal Dunn is Ready for the Next Game. Are You?

The Olympic athlete from Rockville Centre helped the US tie Colombia and advance to the quarter finals, which start Friday.

Crystal Dunn, Long Island's soccer star, is ready for her next Olympic game.

The 24-year-old Rockville Centre native is competing in her first Olympics and scored her first goal in the games on Tuesday. She helped carry the team out of its starting bracket. Now, the US will face Sweden at noon on Friday.

Soccer brackets work slightly differently than other sports. Each team starts in a group of four and plays every other team in their group. Teams score three points for a win, one for a tie and none for a loss. The US won its bracket with seven total points (2-0-1), beating out France's six points.

The US was already in good standing going into Tuesday's game against Columbia, but Dunn helped secure the spot with a goal in the 41st minute that tied the team up with Columbia. Carli Lloyd took a shot that was blocked by Colombia's goal keeper. But Dunn ran in and snagged the rebound, scoring the US's first goal of the game. You can watch her play here from NBC.

The US Women's National Team, which is ranked first in the world, will face off against Sweden, ranked sixth, on Friday at noon. Will you be watching the game and cheering on Crystal Dunn.
