RVC Cyclones Continue their Winning Ways !

RVC/Malverne Cyclones Ice Hockey team win 2 more games !

For the first time with a full roster, the Rockville Centre/Malverne Cyclones Hockey Team defeated Garden City 8-2 on November 17th at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Arena in Bethpage. The win extended Rockville Centre’s unbeaten streak in the Liberty Division to (4-0-1.) Rockville Centre/Malverne remains one of two undefeated teams in the nine team division.

Rockville Centre got out to a quick 1-0 lead at 13:10 into the game on a goal by Senior Luke Dougan and assisted by Jack Blumenfeld. When Rockville Centre went on the power play at 7:49 in the first period, the team only needed 13 seconds to move the puck from the face-off circle to defenseman James Chesney, then to Senior defenseman A.J. Sandorfi, and finally to center James Surless who put the puck in the back of the net to notch a 2-0 lead.

Following the Surless goal, Rockville Centre added three more goals in the first period by Senior Sean Leavenworth (5:37 from Junior Jared Schwalbe), followed by Jack Blumenfeld (2:07 from Sophmore Harry Swett and Jack Flatley), and then Harry Swett from Freshman Brett Dougan and Sean Leavenworth.

A.J. Sandorfi went coast to coast at 13:25 of the second period followed by Sophmore Andrew Cardi (9:50 from James Surless and Sophmore Shane Manzi.) Following Rockville Centre’s eighth goal by Jack Blumenfeld (8:19 from James Chesney) the team took its foot off the gas pedal. Garden City netted one goal late in the second period and another late in the third period to complete the scoring.

The goaltending duties for the game were split between three net minders. The first period was handled by Senior Jason Posner, the second period saw the season debut of Senior Sam Dantona, and the third period saw the season debut of Freshman Sean Hurwitz.

Rockville Centre/Malverne’s next game is Sunday November 22nd at 7:30 versus Plainedge at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Arena in Bethpage at 1001 Stewart Avenue in Bethpage.
