The Village of Rockville Centre will offer free parking on Saturdays through the rest of the year in a bid to promote local businesses.
“Shopping local has become a popular movement across the country and it is no different here in the Village of Rockville Centre,” Mayor Francis Murray said in a release. “When you buy local you support local families and keep people in business, and that keeps jobs going.”
According to elocal.com statistics quoted in the village press release, if shoppers shifted 10 percent of their spending to local businesses, it would bring an additional $235 million per year to that community’s economy. A good share of a retailers’ business is done at the end of the year.
