RVC Schools Name New Director Of Curriculum And Instruction

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — This week, the Rockville Centre School District named veteran educator Sonia Hood as its new Central Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Hood joins the district from Hempstead Public Schools and will report to Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Janine Sampino. Hood served as both a teacher and administrator in the Hempstead School District for nearly two decades.

“Sonia is an exciting hire for us," said Rockville Centre Superintendent June Chang. "Her background is comprehensive, and she has a deep understanding of inquiry-based instruction frameworks that strongly align with our own curriculum goals. We look forward to working with her.”

Hood’s contributions to education include serving as coordinator for the International Baccalaureate Program, sitting on district- and state-wide improvement committees, leading oversight of assessments, developing best practices, writing curriculum and grants, conducting data analysis, and planning professional development for teachers.

Aside from her work in schools, Hood is a member of the Kappa Delta Pi International Honors Society in Education, and is also a published author. Her "Units of Instruction for Gifted Learners" is a compilation of resources supporting the teaching of varied learning styles to help meet the differentiated needs of students. For her work in education, Sonia was honored by Long Island Business News in 2016 with their “40 Under 40” award.
