Sen. Kaminsky Holds Gun Safety Forum
Participants heard from gun control advocates, and learned about Kaminsky's bill to ban the arming of teachers.

On Saturday, State Senator Todd Kaminsky hosted a special forum, “More Than a Moment,” with parents, students, and advocates to advance gun safety measures in our state and country.
A follow-up to the “Town Hall for Our Lives” Kaminsky hosted in April, participants rallied for common-sense gun safety measures in Albany to protect students, schools and communities.
“In today’s day and age, the safety of our schoolchildren is at risk and we need to do something about it,” said Kaminsky. “New Yorkers have been waiting for their leaders to protect their schools and with the inaction in Washington, we must do more to keep our classrooms safe and halt misguided and reckless proposals like arming classroom teachers.”

Kaminsky has put forward legislation in the State Senate that would ban the arming of teachers in schools. Kaminsky said that, in addition to posing serious safety risks and hindering teachers from performing their duties, proposals to arm teachers distract from the root issue of gun violence and sensible solutions to stem the epidemic that has reared its ugly head throughout the nation.
“We must let teachers teach….Senator Todd Kaminsky’s proposed legislation will do just that. Teachers should not be armed -- let’s leave that for our trained law enforcement,” said Linda Beigel Schulman, mother of Parkland victim Scott Beigel.
