Woman Found Guilty in Fatal Crash After Night of Drinking in NYC
The woman and her friend were driving home from the Rockville Centre LIRR station when the accident happened, the DA said.

A Rockville Centre woman was found guilty Wednesday of driving drunk and causing the death of her passenger in 2013, according to the Nassau County District Attorney’s office.
A jury deliberated for less than one day before finding Asya Ulmer, 23, guilty of second-degree manslaughter, second-degree vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, and driving while in an intoxicated condition, the DA said.
Ulmer could face between 5 and 15 years in prison for the top charge, officials said.

“There are no winners in a case like this. It is tragic that Asya Ulmer got drunk, drove, crashed and killed her best friend that night,” said Acting DA Madeline Singas in a statement. “We must be clear though: There is only one victim in this case and that is 21-year-old Jennifer Kristen Alexis, who had her life stolen by her friend who took responsibility when she took the wheel.”
Ulmer and Alexis had just come home on the train from clubbing in New York City on Sept. 15, the DA said. They opted to make the three-mile journey home themselves instead of grabbing a nearby cab, officials said.

At 5:50 a.m., Ulmer slammed into a tractor trailer in the right shoulder of North Centre Avenue near Meehan Street, officials said. The force of the collision sheered the roof off of the car, authorities said.
Alexis was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Nassau County Police. Ulmer was brought to South Nassau Community Hospital for complaints of unspecified pain, cops said.
Ulmer is due back in court on Sept. 15 for post-trial motions, officials said. Her sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.
