Bronx Man Accused Of Driving Drunk With Infant In Car
Police charged the man with Leandra's Law DWI.
RYE, NY — A Bronx resident was accused of driving drunk with a child in his car on the interstate.
New York State Police troopers stopped a car on I-95 in the city of Rye around 11 p.m. Sunday for a vehicle and traffic violation.
Police said Chayane Alvarez, 32, of the Bronx, was driving the car and was found to be intoxicated. He was traveling with his 8-month-old child.

The baby was turned over to a responsible party at the scene.
Alvarez was arrested and taken to the New Rochelle barracks where his blood alcohol content was found to be 0.12 percent.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle, a felony, under Leandra's Law.
In 2009, Leandra's Law was enacted in 2009 to establish a felony related to driving while intoxicated with a child as a passenger.
Alvarez was turned over to a sober third party with appearance tickets returnable to the City of Rye Court Oct. 30.
