County DA Will Not Press Criminal Charges Against Rye Teachers, TJN Reports

The matter is in the hands of the school district, the county district attorney's office reportedly said.

The Westchester County District Attorney’s office has informed the Rye City School District that their office will not press charges against the teachers accused of improperly coaching their elementary school students on state assessment test, according to a Journal News article published Wednesday. The DA cited “legally insufficient evidence,” according to TJN’s Swapna Venugopal Ramaswamy’s article.

Last May, four Rye elementary school teachers, two from Osborn and two from Milton, were placed on administrative leave after they were accused of improperly coaching students on a state assessment test in April.

Since the school district’s investigation was launched at the end of the last school year, parents have protested the district’s handling of the situation at public meetings and in communications to the media and the district.
