CSR's Chavurah has been adapted into a Graphic Novel!

Community Synagogue of Rye's educational model of Chavurah has been adapted into a graphic novel!

The general meaning of Chavurah is a small group of like-minded Jews who assemble for the purposes of facilitating Shabbat and holiday prayer services, sharing communal experiences such as lifecycle events, or Jewish learning.

For the Community Synagogue of Rye, it means more. At our Center for Jewish Learning, Chavurah is an award-winning, alternative Religious School model available for 5th, 6th, and 7th grade families at Community Synagogue of Rye.

We strive to build community through meaningful Jewish learning and living experiences, consisting of:

  • Weekly Mifgash: Students meet in various settings where they explore Jewish answers to their questions
  • Family Limmud: Families of the Chavurah come together in learning (limmud) experiences.
  • Community Kesher: At least once a month, families need to connect (kesher) with the CSR community, attending either Shabbator Holiday services and programs.

Each Chavurah has a Moreh/Morah Derech (guide) who coordinates and facilities the learning experiences. Additionally, the parents of the Chavurahplay an active role as both learners and educators.
