Detours Planned On I-95 Southbound In Westchester

RYE, NY — The New York State Thruway Authority today announced the construction of a temporary bridge ramp from I-287 to I-95 in Westchester County to allow work to move forward with a bridge removal and replacement as part of the “Last Mile” infrastructure project. The $135 million capital project focuses on the one-mile stretch of the New England Thruway (I-95) from exit 22 (Port Chester- Rye- Midland Avenue) to the Connecticut state line.

The I-287 eastbound to I-95 northbound ramp bridge is scheduled to be removed and replaced as part of the project. Contractors are building a temporary bridge for motorists to use while work is taking place on the new ramp bridge. Construction of the new ramp bridge is expected to be complete in 2019.

Work on the temporary bridge will take place in stages, which will impact traffic on I-95.

During the first stage beginning Friday, Dec. 7, intermittent detours will be in place from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on I-95 southbound. Motorists will be routed off exit 21 to I-287 westbound where they will immediately exit to merge back on I-95 southbound. The detour is not scheduled every night, and will be based on progress. Variable Messages Signs (VMS) will be illuminated to inform motorists when the detour is anticipated to be in place. Work is expected to complete by mid-December.

Traffic on I-95 northbound will be impacted during the second stage of construction. More information about the traffic impact will be released before that phase begins.

Traffic information will be broadcast on Variable Message Signs (VMS), Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) and on the Thruway Authority’s website.
