Former Rye Mayor Ed Grainger Dies

He served as mayor of the city from 1966 to 1973.

Former Rye Mayor Ed Grainger passed away in his home on Sunday at the age of 92. Current Mayor Joe Sack announced that flags will be flown at half staff this week in honor of Grainger, who served as mayor from 1966 to 1973.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to Mayor Grainger’s wife of 67 years, Ginie, and their entire family,” said Sack in a statement. “Mayor Grainger will go down in history as one of Rye’s greatest elected officials for stopping Moses and Rockefeller from building the Oyster Bay bridge down the throat of Rye in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. Rest in peace, Mayor Grainger.”
