Obituary: Barbara Ward of Rye

An obituary for Barbara 'Robin' Ward of Rye, New York, a former reporter for People Magazine.

RYE - Barbara Ward, daughter of Kenneth Ward and Barbara Wey Ward, died on October 14 after a lengthy battle with lung disease.

Born in Manhattan in 1933, Robin - as she was known - was raised in Rye, NY. She attended the Gill School in Bernardsville, NJ, before graduating from High Mowing, a Waldorf school, in Wilton, NH. She later graduated from the University of Georgia.

In the late '50s, Robin started at Life magazine as a mail girl and ended her career at Time Inc. more than four decades later as a reporter at People magazine. She specialized in human interest and animal stories. After retirement, Robin traveled extensively, volunteered at Lenox Hill hospital and worked with a number of animal and environmental causes.

Robin leaves behind many who loved her including her New York family - Lisa Greissinger, Jim Salser and their two children, Charles and Leland; a large group of friends and neighbors; her sister, Susan Graf, of Nevada City, CA, three nephews; and Henry, the latest in a long line of very beloved and very spoiled cats.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robin's name to the Humane Society of the United States.
