RYE BROOK, NY — Rose Mary Infantino, 88, formerly of the Bronx and Rye Brook, died on April 13 at Danbury Hospital from complications related to the new coronavirus. She was a resident of Maplewood at Newtown.

She was born in the Bronx in 1931 and raised in Washington Heights. When she was 15 years old, the family returned to the Bronx because her building was demolished by the collapse of a wall in the Disastrous Knickerbocker Ice Plant Fire in 1946 in which 36 people died.

She was the eldest of three and the daughter of Italian immigrants, Antonio and Filomena Staiano. As a first-generation eldest child of the great depression she learned quickly how to work hard and take care of her family. She graduated from Baruch College, where she studied accounting and met her husband Robert Infantino with whom she shared 65 wonderful years of marriage.

She went on to earn her master’s degree in Education at CUNY and a master’s degree in Guidance Counseling at Lehman College. She taught her children and grandchildren her incredible work ethic, how to look after one another, and how to find a bargain. She was also a woman of incredible decorum; she always wore beautiful outfits with matching jewelry and would never tell you her age. Rose Mary was lucky enough to travel all over the world. When she couldn’t travel, she used her iPhone to call and FaceTime with family every week.

Rose Mary will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 65 years Robert, her son Anthony and his wife Diane, her daughter Annemarie and her husband Shane, and her 6 grandchildren, Bryan, Michael, Theresa, Lauren, Matthew and Brendan. She has many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends that will miss her dearly.

Services entrusted to Balsamo-Cordovano Funeral Home, 15 Church Street, Carmel, NY 10512. 845-225-2144.

A private burial will be held at St. Raymond’s Cemetery in Bronx, NY. Due to the coronavirus restrictions, a Memorial Mass in celebration of her life for family and friends will be held at a future date.
