Oktoberfest Celebrations Near Rye

They might be called Oktoberfests but some start in September

RYE, NY—The month of October is most often associated with pumpkins and leaf peeping, but it's also time for Oktoberfests. Although they are called "Oktober-fests," the celebrations start during the third week of September, and, while they traditionally ended on the first Sunday of October, some continue through the month. The first celebration took place in 1810 to honor the wedding of Germany's Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. Today, Oktoberfests celebrate German heritage with live music, good beer and good food.
