Rye Y Wave Ryeders Finish Strong At YMCA State Meet
Individual swimmers won several first place trophies, officials said.

RYE, NY — After clinching the second place prize in the Westchester-Fairfield Leagues, the Rye Y Wave Ryeders won an impressive third place overall at the New York YMCA Championships, held March 15-17 on Long Island. “We were so surprised at the amazing results at States,” said Coach Kate Tiedemann. “The team worked well together and it really showed in the pool.”
Individual swimmers won several first place trophies and Riley Haffner won the senior scholar award as the Wave Ryders competed against 35 other teams.

Wave Ryeder team members will compete in two more meets this season. Eleven swimmers will travel to the Sunkissed Invitational in Charlotte, North Carolina, to swim with teams from all over the east coast. For the first time in team history, a team member, Riley Haffner, has qualified for and will compete in the April YMCA National Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The goal of the Wave Ryeders program is to promote fun, camaraderie, friendship, new skills, physical fitness and positive values that extend beyond the swimming environment. The Rye YMCA offers both a spring and fall swim team. Pre-team is also available for swimmers not yet ready for competition.
