State Funding Awarded to Restore Gardens at the Jay Property in Rye
The funding comes from the Regional Economic Development Councils, created by Gov. Cuomo is 2011.
The Jay Heritage Gardens in Rye received $500,000 in state funding from the Regional Economic Development Councils.
The funds will be used to rehabilitate 1.5 acres of historic stone walled gardens at the Jay property in Rye.
The funding is part of $82.8 million awarded through the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council. The MHREDC was also designated as a “Top Performer” by Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Regional Economic Development Councils and was given the largest amount of the 10 regional councils that are part of the competitive funding process. In all, 118 projects in the Mid-Hudson Region will receive funding.

The “Peter Jay House” built in 1838 has been recognized as one of the most important “Greek Revival” style houses in the country. It forms the centerpiece of the National Historic Landmark Boston Post Road Historic District of Rye.
