Suspect In Death Of Binghamton Student ID'd, Enters Plea
Joao Souza, who graduated from Blind Brook High School, was fatally stabbed Sunday night at Binghamton University.

RYE BROOK, NY — Police have identified the suspect in the fatal stabbing of a Binghamton University student and Blind Brook High School graduate. Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell said Michael M. Roque has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Joao Souza, 19.
Roque, 20, of Massapequa, Nassau County, had a not-guilty plea entered on his behalf by an acting public defender, pressconnects.com said.
He was jailed without bail.

Souza was a first-year engineering student at Binghamton University. He was stabbed and killed Sunday night on campus.

The star high school soccer player’s family lives in Brazil.

A request for comment from Blind Brook High School’s principal was not immediately received.
Souza’s death comes six weeks after a Long Island resident and Binghamton nursing student was killed on campus.
Haley Anderson, 22, was strangled March 8. A fellow nursing student, Orlando Tercero, 22, was taken into custody in Nicaragua March 13.
Authorities said he fled the country before Anderson’s body was discovered.
