In July, Westchester County Executive George Latimer said the number of bridge strikes at that location continued to decline in 2020, with only two trucks hitting the bridge in the first half of the year.

There were a total of eight bridge strikes at King Street in 2019 and 24 in 2018.

Between 2008 and 2018, the bridge was struck 130 times.

The state initiated mitigation projects, completed in the summer of 2019, including an over-height vehicle detection system in advance of the bridge as well as additional warnings on the face of the bridge and more signage along Interstate 287 to keep trucks from getting onto the parkway in the first place.

Commercial vehicles are prohibited on state parkways, including the Hutch.
