Uber Driver Arraigned On Sex Abuse, Assault In HV Incident
From forcible touching, the charges have swelled to felony assault and sex abuse.

RYE BROOK, NY — An Uber driver from the Bronx who allegedly groped a sleeping woman he was driving from New York City to Westchester County has been arraigned on felony charges.
Iqbal Hussain appeared before Westchester County Court Judge Larry Schwartz following an indictment by a Westchester County Grand Jury, District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced.
He faces these charges:

- Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, a class D felony
- Assault in the Second Degree, a class D felony
- Unlawful Imprisonment in the Second Degree, a misdemeanor
He had initially been charged with misdemeanor assault and forcible touching.
The victim called police to report the June 8 attack. She said she had requested an Uber ride from New York City to her home. She fell asleep in the back seat and shortly thereafter, the car stopped. She awoke to find the driver in the back seat groping her under her dress. A brief struggle ensued; the driver returned to the driver’s seat and drove the passenger home.

Hussain was arrested July 3.
Assistant District Attorney Kerrie Williams, Deputy Chief of the Sex Crimes Bureau, is prosecuting the case.
Hussain's next court appearance is on the calendar Jan. 8, 2019.
A charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
