RYE, NY — Rye "PRYEde" flags are meant to be a symbol of the Westchester community's support for its LGBTQ neighbors, but this week, the rainbow pride flags in a homeowner's yard became the focus of hate.

Homeowner Stacey Massey says that displaying a pride flag in her family's front yard made her family's home a target over the weekend. She told reporters that a tree branch was dragged across her lawn and a pride flag was kicked over.

The vandalism was caught on home security footage. Hateful anti-gay slurs can be heard on the video as two shadowy figures appear to walk around the home causing minor damage.

The family says that rather than punishing the perpetrators, they would like to see the incident used as a teachable moment. Similar incidents were reported both last year and at the beginning of Pride month this year.

"To know that this is still happening, I think we all need to shine a light on ourselves and say look, you know, are we doing everything we can be doing?" Massey said to ABC News' Marcus Solis. "Can we do better? Can we educate both ourselves, our youth and our community and do better?"
