What You Need To Know: Rye Patch School Election Guide

RYE, NY — On Tuesday, voters will get the final say on proposed school budgets and property tax levies. Here's a quick guide to understanding the choices and making your voice heard at the polls.

RYE SCHOOL DISTRICT:

Voters will be asked to approve the proposed Rye School District budget. The proposed budget is $94,237,421, with a 2.00 percent increase over the 2020-21 spending package.

School officials said the tax levy will increase by 2.74 percent if the budget is approved by voters.

There are 3 seats available for the Rye Schools Board of Education. The candidates for the open seats are:

• Callie Erickson (incumbent)
• Megan Escherich Evans
• Kelsey Johnson
• Bozidar Jovanovic
• Laura Labriola
• John D. Leonard
• John Moschetti
• Chris Repetto (incumbent)

The annual budget vote and board election will be from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on May 18 in the Rye Middle School gymnasium.

BLIND BROOK SCHOOL DISTRICT:

The proposed budget is $51,169,419, with a 1.41 percent increase over the 2020-21 spending package.

School officials said the tax levy will not increase for the first time in more than 20 years if the budget is approved by voters.

According to the district, the major driver of the modest budget increase is contractual salary obligations and the addition of five new positions, including two custodial and three teaching positions.

There are a total of two school board seats to be filled for three-year terms. The candidates for the open school board are:

• Scott Jaffee (incumbent)
• Jeffrey Mensch
