What's Open, Closed New Year's Day 2019 In Rye
Many workers will start the new year with a day off. Here's what to expect.

RYE, NY — Whether you are heading down to Times Square, celebrating locally or even spending a quiet night at home watching the ball drop on the television, New Year's Day is sure to be much quieter, because many offices and stores will be closed.
Lots of government workers will get the day off, but not everything will be coming to a complete halt.
Here's a look at what's open and closed around the Hudson Valley on the first day of the new year.

Government Buildings And Banks
- City, town, village, state and federal offices will be closed on New Year's Day.
- Post offices will be closed. Regular mail will not be delivered.
- Libraries will be closed, with many closing early on New Year's Eve.
- Many banks will be open on New Year's Eve, but closed on New Year's Day because it's a federal holiday.
- Many local governments will be holding inauguration ceremonies. Check with your town or village.
Schools

- Jan. 1 is the first holiday for public schools for 2019. Most school districts will be reopening Wednesday, Jan. 2.
Public Transportation
- Metro-North has announced a holiday schedule through New Year's Day.
- Bee-Line buses and ParaTransit vehicles will operate on a Sunday schedule on New Year's Day.
Stores
Some stores such as Trader Joe's and Costco will be closed on New Year's Day. Others such as Whole Foods Market and Stop and Shop will be open. It's probably best to call your favorite store before heading out.
