Annual 5K Run/Walk “Fur” The Animals And Woof Fest Coming Up

The event supports the more than 100 injured and non-releasable wild and farm animals residing at the Holtsville Ecology Site.

HOLTSVILLE, NY – Supervisor Edward Romaine and Superintendent of Highways Daniel P. Losquadro invite Town residents to attend the 3rd annual Run Wild – 5K Run and Pet Walk “Fur” the Animals, followed by a Dog Swim and Woof Fest featuring pet-friendly activities on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019.

The 5K Run and Family Pet Walk support the more than 100 injured and non-releasable wild and farm animals residing at the Holtsville Ecology Site’s Animal Preserve year-round.

The 5K will begin at the Holtsville Ecology Site, 249 Buckley Road, Holtsville; registration/check in is at 7:30 a.m. and the race begins at 9 a.m. For ages 10 to adult; top male and female overall winners and top male and female winners in individual age groups will receive awards. Pre-register here for $25; $30 day of the race. Sweet tech t-shirts guaranteed to the first 100 registered.

The Family Pet Walk begins at the Holtsville Ecology Site at 10:30 a.m. Registration is $5 per participant; kids five and under are free. Prizes will be awarded to the top three fundraisers; individuals raising more than $100 will receive a t-shirt. Pre-register at www.brookhavenny.gov or call 631.758-9664.

The Dog Swim, which will be held at the Holtsville Pool from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., is $10 per animal for each half-hour swim session. Pre-registration at 631.451.6118 is required. All dogs must be licensed and vaccinated.

Following the Run/Walk, Brookhaven’s Woof Fest will feature vendors, children’s activities, games, a pet costume contest, best trick contest, dog/owner look-alike contest, demonstrations, kids’ crafts, a puppet show and animal education programs.

In the event of rain, activities will be moved indoors to the Ecology Site buildings. Parking is free throughout the day.
