UPDATE: LIRR Train Strikes And Kills Person In Ronkonkoma
The person, not authorized to be on the tracks, was confirmed dead at the scene by MTA police, officials said.
RONKONKOMA, NY ? A Long Island Rail Road train struck and killed a person Monday night in Ronkonkoma, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
The person was struck just before 7 p.m. near Pond Road, just west of Ronkonkoma, officials said, adding that the person was confirmed dead at the scene by Metropolitan Transportation Authority police.
No other details about the person were released.

Officials said the person had not been "authorized to be on the tracks."
LIRR service was suspended just after the incident and then restored between Central Islip and Ronkonkoma about an hour later.

All service then operated off of Track 1, Platform A, in Central Islip "while emergency personnel continue to investigate the incident," officials said.
No other details were released.
