Bicyclist Fatally Struck By Car In Holtsville: Police

The 44-year-old was killed after being struck by a car Friday night.

HOLTSVILLE, NY — A bicyclist was killed after being struck by a car in Holtsville Friday evening, according to Suffolk Police. Rafael Mendez Torres, 44, of Medford was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a 2006 Ford E-350 box truck traveling southbound on North Ocean Avenue, north of Fish Road, at 8 p.m., police said.

Mendez Torres was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic from Holtsville Fire Rescue. The driver of the Ford was not injured. The Ford was impounded for a safety check.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
