Brookhaven Residents Can Pick Up Free Mulch At Seven Locations

The initiative is part of the town's "Greening Brookhaven" program. The free mulch and compost is first-come, first-serve.

BROOKHAVEN, NY —As part of a Town of Brookhaven's green initiative, free mulch and compost is now available at seven pickup locations in the township. Supervisor Ed Romaine announced the measure this week in a news release.

The mulch and compost is available to residents on a first-come, first-serve basis. Residents must bring their own shovels and containers to transport what they want from the bulk piles.

  • Brookhaven Town Hall, South Parking Lot, One Independence Hill in Farmingville, Monday through Friday 9 a.m. until 7:30 p.m and weekends 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
  • Percy Raynor Park, Route 347 and Belle Mead Road in South Setauket, Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Rose Caracappa Center, 739 Route 25A in Mt. Sinai, Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Brookhaven Landfill, 350 Horseblock Road in Brookhaven Hamlet, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon.
  • Manorville Compost Facility, Papermill Road in Manorville, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m, except for lunch 11:50 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
  • Holtsville Ecology Site, 249 Buckley Road in Holtsville, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Robert E. Reid, Sr. Recreation Center, Rte. 25A and Defense Hill Road in Shoreham, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The only location open to commercial vehicles is the Brookhaven landfill, and the fee is $12 per yard.
