Centereach Fire Department honors Robert Bloom as Grand Marshal

Centereach Fire Department is honored to have Robert Bloom as their Grand Marshal of the 85th Anniversary Parade that will take place this Saturday, August 4 at 4pm.
Robert N. Bloom became a member of the Centereach Fire Department in 1959 and since that time he has held numerous positions of office. In 1959, Bob was the Communications- Radio and Telephone Dispatcher for the Department. In 1962, he then went on to serve as 2nd Lieutenant of Company 2. From 1962-1964, he was 1st Lieutenant and from 1966-1967, he held the position once again for as 2nd Lieutenant of Company 2. In 1966, in addition to his duties as an officer, he organized the Centereach Fire Department Benevolent Association and held the office of President for 28 years. From 1969-1971 he served as Captain of Company 2 and received his certification as an Emergency Medical Technician in 1971. He was also qualified as a driver for all Department Apparatus and Ambulances. In 1974, Bon was Captain of Hook and Ladder. During his years in the department, he was responsible for organizing the Department Blood Donation Drives, in 1977, he received the Captains Award from Fire Police and the Police Emergency Awards in 1981. The Department held its only “Roast” honoring him in 1984, at which time he received awards from the Chairman of the Board, the Department Chiefs and all Department Companies. In 1988, nearly 30 years after responding to his first call Robert Bloom received the Centereach Fire Department High Point Award.
After 40 years of Active Service, he was bestowed the of Honorary Deputy Chief of the Centereach Fire Department for his 40 years of Active Service. In 2014, Bob received an award for 55 years of active service in the Department.

Bob will be turning 100 years old and celebrating 59 years of service.
