East Girls Run Away with PBs at Armory
From relay teams to individual races, Sachem had a solid outing in Manhattan.

The Sachem East Girls Track and Field team made it's first trip to the Armory Track and Field Center in Manhattan Friday for the highly competitive North Shore Invitational, coming away with numerous personal bests and many performances earning spots on the Suffolk County ranking lists.
Highlights included Jackie Wasilco's outstanding lead off leg in the 4x800 relay as she teamed with Casey Gelderman, Danielle Vasquez, and Shannon O'Hehir to place fourth.
O'Hehir also placed sixth in the 3,000-meter run in a personal best 10:46.17. Rachel Paul ran the 1,000 meters in the second fastest time in New York State (2:53.58) to take the win and then anchored the 4x400 relay to a third place finish with Mel Notarstefano, Laurie Semetsis, and Nicole Silvestre joining her in a season best 4:10.20.

The team will be returning to the Armory next Saturday to compete in the Hispanic Games where the Racewalkers will take center stage. Sachem East's Kelly Maranchuck and Sachem North's Katie Michta, just back from a week long racewalk training camp in Texas, will be looking to put their training to the test against an elite field featuring the East coast's best, also including Sachem East's Alyssa Furlani, Amanda Catherall and Holly Lindoe.

This featured event, the 1,500-meter racewalk, is annually the strongest regular season field in the United States, only surpassed in quality at the National Scholastic Championships held in March. The Hispanic Games will be webcast live on armorytrack.com.
