23-year-old faces five to 20 years in prison for attempting to shoot an officer, as well as a maximum of 25 years for drug dealing charges.

A 23-year-old Farmingville man has been found guilty Friday of attempting to murder an undercover State Police investigator at a Holbrook Mobile gas station off Exit 61 of the Long Island Expressway in August 2011.
According to a Newsday report, Nicholas Hansen faces five to 20 years in prison for attempting to shoot senior investigator Kevin Ring during a drug bust.
Hansen has also been convicted of first-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, which according to the report has a maximum penalty of 25 years imprisonment. Hansen has been convicted of a total of 17 charges, which also include criminal use of a firearm in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office said.
According to the DA's office, Ring was part of the Suffolk County District Attorney Heroin Task Force that was planning on arresting Hansen upon completion of a cocaine deal. However Hansen fired a .38 caliber revolver at the officer, but Ring was not hit by any of the bullets. Ring returned fire, shooting Hansen four times.ÂHansen’s sentencing will take place on Jan. 14, and the judge will have discretion as to whether or not to make some of his charges consecutive to make the actual sentence longer.
