Two residential buildings containing 245 units have been completed as part of the Ronkonkoma Hub project, officials said.

The two buildings are the first to open at the $700 million, 53-acre project site., which is expected to create 1,450 residential homes and more than 600,000 square feet of commercial space—as well as the 10,000 construction jobs and 2,500 permanent jobs that will come in hand.

"The Hub has become a symbol of progress and forward-thinking in Suffolk County and throughout the region," Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said. "If we are serious about making it more affordable to live on Long Island, we'll need more projects like these."

The development is buoyed by upgrades to the Long Island Rail Road Ronkonkoma Station and the LIRR's Double Track project, which was completed in Sept. 2018 and will reduce delays while allowing expanded service.
