
The work week will start with near-freezing temperatures and it may end with the first snowflakes of the season falling on Long Island.
Areas of frost are likely on the island before 9 a.m. Monday. The week looks mostly dry until we get to Thursday night into Friday.
"For the end of the week, we`ll be watching the development of a southern stream storm which is expected to develop across the southern Plains," the National Weather Service says. "Model guidance is somewhat divided on this system's movement."

For the moment, the weather service says there's a 50 percent chance of rain and snow Thursday night.

Monday- Areas of frost before 9 a.m. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 53. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon.
Monday Night- A 20 percent chance of showers after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. South wind 8 to 10 mph.
Tuesday- A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Southwest wind 7 to 10 mph.
Tuesday Night- A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 40. Northwest wind 8 to 11 mph.
Wednesday- Sunny, with a high near 52. Northwest wind 7 to 11 mph.
Wednesday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 39.
Thursday- A 40 percent chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 56.
Thursday Night- A chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
Friday- A chance of rain and snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 42. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Friday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 28.
Saturday- Sunny, with a high near 42.
