Mileto a cornerback and wide receiver for the Flaming Arrows, was among football players carrying a log as part of a drill when the log fell and struck his head. He would have been a junior at the start of the school year in September.

"The district is devastated by this horrific accident and words cannot express the grief we feel as a school community," Sachem Superintendent Kenneth Graham said in a statement. "We extend our deepest condolences to the student’s family and friends during this terribly difficult time."
