Heat Index Could Top 100 Degrees On Long Island
A heat advisory has been issued for most of the island.
There's hot and then there's "you've got to be kidding me" hot. We are getting the latter Sunday and Monday on Long Island.
A heat advisory will be in effect from noon Sunday until 8 p.m. Monday for the entire island except for the South Fork. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s in some areas. Throw in the humidity and it will feel closer to 100 degrees Sunday afternoon.
On Monday afternoon, heat index values should be even higher as humidity increases ahead of an approaching cool front. The heat index could reach 103 degrees on the island.

The front may also trigger a few Monday afternoon thunderstorms as it passes through, as well as bring a return to temperatures closer to average for the rest of next week.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside Sunday or Monday. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening, the weather service says. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
