Holbrook Moms' Dream Turns Into National Skincare Company
Holbrook's Melissa Moritz set out to create skincare products that are safe for children—now it's a national company.

Four years ago, Melissa Mortiz had a dream of creating better skincare products for her children.
And after starting Max & Madeleine with Carolynn Mowen, the company is now a national organic skincare company with a small local presence that shares innovative products.
"Max & Madeleine is based here in Holbrook and started as a dream of mine in my backyard as a way to create better skincare options for my children," Mortiz said. "It has grown to a national company and is making a difference and providing opportunities to women all over the country. It’s something I’m so passionate about."

Mortiz' goal is to provide product choices that put the power in the hands of the consumer, especially when "traditional, everyday products are riddled with harmful, chemical ingredients," she said.
Max & Madeleine has embraced a social-selling business model to provide women all over the country with the opportunity to voice the benefits of organic skincare in a fun and engaging way.

"The social selling model allows for intimate, personal and trusted communication between connected individuals and has grown to a massive network of people using this connection as a way to make amazing small changes in consumer buying behavior," she said. "They are honored that so many passionate, driven, smart women (and men) have chosen to share their products while educating their communities. They created this freedom-based business opportunity for those who believe in their mission and want to actively take part in the company’s success, rewards and support. They are committed to growing their cause and sharing their successes with the community of people who join them."
Max & Madeleine products include Sunsticks, Detox Clay Mask, Healing Balm, Skin Rescue-Blemish Prone Oily Skin Serum and more.
"Their sustainable ideology grew to a measurable 1,000 advisors nationally with growing international interest," according to a press release. "From the origins of community farmer’s markets and family and friend parties, they are thrilled to see this idea grow into a large scale model of their initial small scale dream. To have groups of people all over the country sharing their vision for safer products, advocating healthier choices through interactive social selling events has put Max & Madeleine on the map."
