LI Weather: Hour-By-Hour Forecast Of Damaging Wind, Heavy Rain

LONG ISLAND, NY — A Monday storm threatens to cause power outages and flooding on Long Island. High wind warnings are in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Nassau County and 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Suffolk County.

Sustained winds of 35-45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph are likely. Isolated gusts up to 70 mph are possible.

"Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines," the wind warnings say. "Even sturdy and well secured tent structures could be damaged. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles."

A coastal flood advisory will in effect from noon to 6 p.m. Monday for the entire South Shore as well as the North Fork.

"Several roads and low-lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding," the advisory says.

Large breaking waves of 12-16 feet will result in significant erosion at ocean beaches.
