INTERFACE's Back to School Supply Drive Aims to Help Families In Need

Throughout August, collection bins will be available for the donation of school supplies for the less fortunate.

The Town of Brookhaven’s Youth Bureau will sponsor the INTERFACE Back to School Supply Drive for another season.

During the month of August, residents are asked to drop off items like pens, calculators, backpacks, notebooks, lunch boxes, folders, glue, binders and more to various locations throughout the town.

The supplies will be distributed to needy families who might not otherwise be able to get new supplies for their children before school begins.

“So many children start the school year without all the supplies that they need because their families just cannot afford them,” said Supervisor Ed Romaine. “Thanks to the Youth Bureau and the generosity of Brookhaven residents, we are able to provide the items that will help prepare students for the school year ahead.”

INTERFACE unites “good corporate neighbors and the Town of Brookhaven” to provide help to the town’s less fortunate residents. Comprised of approximately 125 corporations, non-profit agencies, community and fraternal organizations, INTERFACE provides goods and services to those in need through volunteerism.

In 2013, the program raised more than $783,000 in grants, monetary donations, goods and services and in-kind donations. A recipient of the President’s Private Sector Initiative Award, it has also been honored by the Eleanor Roosevelt Committee of the Governor’s Office of Voluntary Service.
