Islip Town to Host Public Forums on Hurricane Preparation

A series of public forums will be held to help residents and local businesses prepare for hurricanes and significant storms.

The Town of Islip will host a series of public forums to help residents and businesses prepare for future hurricanes and significant storms.

Multiple agencies will be present at each meeting to answer questions about issues like electricity loss, medical emergencies and trouble with communication during a storm. Residents will be briefed on how best to prepare their families and their homes for a hurricane and how to prepare family members to evacuate if the need arises.

“Hurricanes pose a very real threat to our town and every household needs to prepare and have a plan,” said Islip’s Town Supervisor Tom Croci. “Although our coastal communities are more at risk, even our inland neighborhoods are threatened by the loss of electricity, downed trees and lack of access to first responders in the immediate aftermath of a storm. In short, preparation now can prevent tragedy later.”
