Kmart in Farmingville will join the list of shuttered big box stores on Long Island when it closes this fall.

The store at 2280 N. Ocean Ave. cited "economic" reasons in its regulatory notice and 91 employees will be affected, according to the notice.

Transform Holdco LLC, the Illinois-based company that bought Kmart and its sister chain, Sears, told Newsday: "After careful review, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to close the Kmart in Farmingville. Liquidation sales are expected to begin later this month and stores are planned to close between late October and late November. As we promised, all eligible associates will be offered the same number of weeks of severance as offered to employees of Sears Holdings Corporation prior to that company’s Chapter 11 filing in October 2018. We will continue to evaluate our network of Sears and Kmart stores and cannot rule out additional store closures in the near term. Our goal remains to return the company to profitability and preserve as many jobs as possible in the communities we serve.”
