Lake Ronkonkoma Beach Is Open Again
Water quality now within acceptable levels says Suffolk County Department of Health Services after the beach was closed Wednesday.

Lake Ronkonkoma Beach in Islip Town has been re-opened as the beach closure issued Wednesday has been lifted, announced Suffolk County Department of Health Services Friday.
The department says that recent samples collected show the water quality to now be within acceptable levels. Previously the department found high levels of cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae, which can be dangerous to humans if they produce toxins in large concentrations.
The department says that residents can get the latest information on affected beaches by calling the Bathing Beach hotline at 631-852-5822, calling the department’s office of ecology at 631-852-5760 during normal business hours or visiting www.suffolkcountyny.gov/health and under “Our Environment” click “Beaches.”
