LONG ISLAND, NY - Two more King Kullen supermarkets will be shutting down soon just months after the closure of the Mt. Sinai store, a spokesperson for a King Kullen confirmed.

The Lake Ronkonkoma store, located on Ronkonkoma Avenue, will be closing first on Aug. 22 followed by the North Babylon location on Deer Park Avenue on Sept. 26.

The Mt. Sinai store, which was located on Nesconset Highway, officially closed its doors on June 20.

"These stores were underperforming and the decision was made to close rather than renew leases that were coming due," spokesperson Lloyd Singer said.

All current employees are expected to be reassigned so no layoffs are anticipated.

There are still a total of 30 King Kullen locations left including two in Bay Shore, Bellmore, Bethpage, Blue Point, Bridgehampton, Center Moriches, Cutchogue, Eastport, Franklin Square, Garden City Park, Glen Cove, Hampton Bays, Hewlett, Huntington, Huntington Station, Island Park, Levittown, Lindenhurst, Manhasset, Manorville, Massapequa Park, Middle Island, North Patchogue, Rockville Centre, Shirley, St. James, Valley Stream, Wading River and Wantagh.

Last January Stop & Shop announced its plan to acquire all of the King Kullen's 32 stores in addition to five Wild by Nature stores and the Long Island-based company's corporate office in Bethpage.

However, that deal has not yet been finalized.

"Stop & Shop continues to work through customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals relative to its acquisition of King Kullen Grocery Co., and the transaction has not yet closed," Stop & Shop spokesperson Stefanie Shuman said.
