Lane Closures To Begin On North Ocean Avenue Bridge

Here we go.

Motorists should expect lane closures beginning this week on Suffolk County Route 83 (North Ocean Avenue) over the bridge for the Long Island Expressway and on Express Drive South, New York State Department of Transportation announced Monday.

One of the three left turn lanes from eastbound Express Drive South to North Ocean Avenue will be closed. Additionally, southbound North Ocean Avenue will be reduced to one lane going over the bridge.

Portable variable message signs have been placed in the area to advise motorists.

This is part of a $7.4 million project installing a new concrete deck on the North Ocean Avenue bridge which is scheduled for completion in spring of 2019. Closures have been planned to allow at least five travel lanes open during each of the project’s three stages.

As with most road projects, work may be cancelled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.

Motorists are reminded to drive carefully through the work zone, obey any speed restrictions that may be in place, and the instructions of the flag persons for their safety and the safety of the highway work crew.
