Long Islanders Rent Outdoor Tents For A Safer Thanksgiving Dinner

After New York State sets limits on how many people should gather for the holidays, tent rentals boom.

HOLTSVILLE, NY —After New York State tightened coronavirus restrictions in November in response to a rising infection rate, many Long Islanders wondered how to safely host Thanksgiving gatherings. Gov. Cuomo set a limit of 10 people per private home gathering, but the restriction is largely seen as an unenforceable guideline and recommendation since it's "very hard to police."

But many Long Island families that are choosing to reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission at Thanksgiving parties are looking for alternate ways to host more people. Strong Island Tent Rentals in Holtsville tells Patch that they are seeing an increase in tent rentals for Thanksgiving.

"We are happy that we can help our local families and charities stay healthy and safe this holiday season," owner Eddie Spillett said.

Some customers are choosing to hold the holiday dinner outdoors as an added safety measures, while others are using tents to be able to host more than ten people at dinner.

"Many just want to have it outside for more room to spread out. Makes it more comfortable for them and keeps their mind at ease."
