Man Arrested After Striking 2 Pedestrians: Police

Police said the Eric Boemper was driving at a "high rate of speed" when he swerved to avoid another car and hit two people.

RONKONKOMA, NY — A 21-year-old man was charged with assault after he struck two pedestrians with his car Sunday night, Suffolk police said.

Eric Boemper was driving a 2006 Mazda 3 at a high rate of speed west on Victory Drive at the intersection of North 7th Street when he swerved to avoid crashing into another vehicle and struck a pole and two pedestrians on the shoulder of the road at about 7:25 p.m., police said.

The pedestrians, a 20-year-old man and an 18-year-old man, were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Boemper, who lives on Victory Drive, was charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor. He was issued a field appearance ticket and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
