Motorcyclist Killed In Long Island Expressway Crash

RONKONKOMA, NY— A motorcyclist died Sunday when his bike struck the rear of another car and he was thrown into the HOV lane in the path of another car on the Long Island Expressway in Ronkonkoma on Sunday, Suffolk police said.
Police said that at about 10:40 p.m., 27-year-old Scott Dawes Jr. was riding a 2017 Harley-Davidson in the right lane of the westbound LIE at exit 60 when the bike struck the rear of a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was driven by Haci Ozgun. Dawes was thrown into the HOV lane where he was struck by a 2012 Honda, which was driven by Jasper Oberfelder-Riehm, police said.
Dawes, of Franklin, New York, was pronounced dead at the scene by an ambulance unit from the Ronkonkoma Fire Department, according to police. Ozgun, 46, of Ronkonkoma, and Oberfelder-Riehm, 27, of New York City, were not injured in the crash, police said.
