Potato Soup at Irish Times Wins Prize

Owner took home medal and trophy at local church soup/chili contest.

The cream of potato soup at Irish Times is now award winning.

Earlier this month, the soup took home first place honors in the professional category at the True North Community Church soup and chili contest.

Competing against soups from other local restaurants around Long Island, Irish Times, located in Main Street in Holbrook, N.Y., now has bragging rights for one of the most delicious soups around.

“It’s the soup we’ve been making at Irish Times since day one,” said Irish Times co-owner Lorcan Phelan. “It was fun competing.”

More than 2,000 people came to the event and sampled small cups – about 8-10 gallons worth.

For the win, Phelan took home a first place medal and a small trophy. Phelan and Company aren’t celebrating the win with a trip to Disney World, but he was excited.

“I had to call my mother up in Ireland,” he said. “I won something.”
