Sachem North alum Ryan Gerondel will transfer from SUNY Binghamton to wrestle at CUNY Hunter next year.
Citing a desire to wrestle at 133 pounds instead of 125, he is parting ways with the Division I Colonial Athletic Association school.
Gerondel, who finished his all-state high school career with 112-17 record, was 2-7 as a freshman at Binghamton.

“Binghamton just wasn't a good fit for me,” he said. “It wasn't that I couldn't take the wrestling, it was the 25 pounds I had to cut and maintain. Cutting that much weight and being that far away from home gets to you after a while”
Gerondel said he’d be a lot better off at the higher weight.

“I'm going to actually be able to eat and have energy,” he said.
Hunter is in the process of rebuilding its program and finished 2-16 this past season.
“I can make an impact to the point where I can help make this team even more competitive than it already is,” he said.
Gerondel is majoring in biology and said the location in New York City will be better with more access to research facilities and hospitals.
“It's time for me to start focusing on my future and I think this is a giant step in the right direction,” said Gerondel.
